Wanna Run for Chocolate With Me?!?!

Great news y'all!

I am very excited to announce that I am a new ambassador for the Nashville Hot Chocolate 15/5K!!!

I am so very excited to be participating in this race on Valentine's Day 2015 in one of my favorite cities to run in - Nashville!  I missed out on this event this year so I'm making up for it in 2015 and I can't wait!

Never run a Hot Chocolate race?!?!  You have two options - the 5K course and the 15K course - all run through the beautiful city of Nashville highlighting some of the city's attractions!  And, of course, this is waiting for you at the end.

All new this year is a finisher's medal for the 15K!  How awesome is that?!?!

A chocolate bar - I LOVE it!

What's more - THIS is your goodie bag.

A full-zip, fleece-lined hoodie.  Yes, please.

Needless to say, I am super pumped about this race!  And I want you to join me as we run for chocolate in Nashville on February 14th!  So to "sweeten" the deal (haha, I kill myself), I'm throwing in a code that will give you an ADDITIONAL FREE gift!  Here it comes:

So, will I see you there?!?!

Apple Raisin Steel Cut Oats

Sundays are my long run days - my sweat sisters and I usually hit the pavement between 5 and 6am to get our training miles in.  It's guaranteed to be a good time - and I know you're thinking how is running so many miles fun; but when you're with good company, it really is!

This past Sunday was the first time it started to feel like fall was coming.  My running buddies needed to do quite a few more miles than I did (they are training for the St. Jude full marathon - SO proud of them!!!) so after my 6 I left them and went on home.  Which was a good thing because I was actually kind of cold!  And you know that cooler temps and sweaty clothes don't mix - by the time I got home, I was COLD.

I threw on a sweatshirt when I got home but since it was breakfast time I figured I'd whip up something warm for us to eat.  This recipe, Apple Raisin Steel Cut Oats, is the product of that!  And, as promised on my Facebook page earlier this week, here's the recipe!

Dropping In? #Tower10Miler Transportation Options

Welcome to the Virtual Tower of Terror 10 Miler Weekend Blog Hop!  If this is your first time "checking in," welcome to The Smith Summary!  My name is Kristen and I will be your concierge today ;)

Virtual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Blog Hop Directory

Just 16 days until we "drop in" the Walt Disney Workd resort for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler Weekend!  One of the things I love about runDisney events is the event transportation provided to all participants staying in a host resort on Disney property.  For the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror weekend, the host resorts are:

All-Star Movies
All-Star Sports
All-Star Music
Pop Century
Caribbean Beach
Port Orleans - French Quarter
Port Orleans - Riverside
Old Key West
Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Beach Club
Boardwalk Villas
Polynesian Village
Wilderness Lodge

Buses will pick up from and drop off at each of these resorts for all of the weekend's events, including the Health & Fitness Expo, Happy Haunted 5K, Kids Races, and transportation from the Villain's Hollywood Bash after the Tower of Terror 10 Miler.  This includes transportation for spectators also!!  If you are staying at one of these host resorts, transportation information will be posted for you in the lobby of the resort!

The signs will look something like this so be on the look out for them!  It will have pick-up times and event times and it will tell you which bus line will service your resort to help you make sure you get on the correct bus to come back to your hotel.

Parking is limited at the event venues so runDisney STRONGLY encourages using event transportation.

However, if you are staying off of Disney property or at a non-host resort, you will have to provide your own transportation.  Driving directions are available here.  The important thing to note is that there is no parking nor drop-off at Hollywood Studios the evening of the race.  If you are driving or taking a taxi you will need to park or be dropped off at ESPN Wide World of Sports, where a shuttle will take you to the race staging area.  Those shuttles will begin running at 7pm on race day.

Also, for those of you staying at the Beach Club or the Boardwalk resorts, you could easily walk back to your resort after the race Saturday night Sunday morning!

Whichever transportation you use, just make sure to give yourself plenty of time!!  I do strongly advise against using the elevator... ;)

See you soon mortals!!!

Fit Made Fun Day

I received free products in order to hose the LeapFrog and CLIF Kid sponsored MommyParty.  All opinions, as always, are 100% my own.

This past Saturday, September 6th, was National Fit Made Fun Day!  With the launch of LeapFrog's new product, the LeapBand, they officially declared September 6th as National Fit Made Fun Day - a day to recognize the importance of active play and celebrate how LeapBand makes fitness fun.

As an active mom who strives to set a good example for my kids, I jumped at the opportunity to host a Fit Made Fun party, complete with two LeapBands and some yummy CLIF Kid Z protein bars!

Since we were going to be playing games and encouraging the kids to be active, I invited some of my closest running buddies to bring their kids to our local park for my party.

I let Samantha play with the LeapBands at home while I set them up so she was anxious to show it off to the other kids!

And yes, Mother Nature did try to crash our party - but we didn't let the rain stop our fun!

The kids played the Kid Challenge Relay with the LeapBands.  Prior to the party, I set up the LeapBands using LeapFrog Connect on my home computer.  We divided the kids into teams of two - each team had a LeapBand to use.

The LeapBand has pre-loaded challenges.  The child wearing the leap band would pull up the challenge and then have their whole team complete it.  Morgan's favorite was jumping like a frog - she even provided sound effects ;)

Each child got a chance to try the LeapBand during this game - it was a great way to introduce the product to them!  After that game we let each child take a turn wearing it while they had free play.  The more active you are while wearing the band, the more activities you get to do with your LeapBand "animal".  Samantha chose a cat, Morgan chose a panda.

The kids enjoyed playing on the playground; we also had a soccer ball and a football available.  Some of the parents got in on the action!!

When the rain hit again we had all the kids gather under the gazebo to try the CLIF Kids Z protein bars.  CLIF Kid Zbars are made with whole grains so I didn't feel guilty about letting the kids have them!  We had three flavors to choose from - Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Mint.

All of the bars were a big hit!  Even one parent told me her child, who was a picky eater, loved them.  CLIF sent us so many samples that I was able to send each family home with their own box!

Mother Nature ultimately had other plans so we had to end our party a little early when the rain did not let up, but the kids really enjoyed playing with the LeapBands and trying their new snacks!  I think the parents also enjoyed seeing the kids get outdoors and be active rather than sit inside watching television.

A big thanks to MomSelect, LeapFrog, and CLIF for allowing me to host this party!!!

If At First You Don't Succeed...

Try, try again!!!

Yes, I'm throwing my name in the hat again this year for a spot on the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  I applied last year and even though I did not make it very far in the selection process I really enjoyed the experience and the comaraderie of all the applicants!  I figured it was worth another shot this year :)

Good luck to all the applicants!  #FaithTrustPixieDust to you all!!
