Disney Social Media Moms On the Road Celebration

As Goofy would say...GARWSH!  I hardly know where to start with this post.  Sorry it has taken me a few days to get this put together - I wanted to do it as soon as I got home from the trip but I took my Virginia law exam yesterday so I was busy studying.  BTW - I passed!!!  Yay me!!!

Anywho, on to the good stuff :)

Last  Thursday I had the extreme pleasure of attending the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On the Road in Philadelphia.  It was an incredibly informative, enlightening, and magical 5 hour session.  I absolutely loved meeting people in real life that I have only spoken to online, as well as making new friends - and let's not forget all the motivating speakers!

It would probably take me a LONG time to recap EVERYTHING and well, let's face it - I don't have that much time and you don't have that much time to read such a long post, SO....I decided I would recap with pics and share as much as I could!

I arrived on Wednesday afternoon and met DisBroad Tania at our hotel, the Best Western Plus The Inn at King of Prussia, which was across the street from the King of Prussia mall as well as the Crowne Plaza where the conference would take place the next morning.

After a real Philadelphia dinner experience (ahem, cheesesteaks of course, from Tony Luke's!) we called it a night since our day was getting started bright and early the next day.

Registration opened for the conference at 7:30am and Tania and I were ready and waiting at the Crowne Plaza when they opened the doors!

We were greeted with tables decorated to show their #DisneySide and treated to a delicious breakfast!

After we ate Jamie Langdon from Disney PR got the conference kicked off by having us do a pin trading ice breaker!

We also found out "What's New at Disney Parks" from Gary Buchanan, who was rocking his Jedi #DisneySide.


Next up we heard from Jenn Fickley-Baker from the Disney Parks Blog.  She shared with us that blog "content is king", and she also showed us the video of the how they made the ultimate hashtag picture to announce the #RockYourDisneySide 24 hour Disney Parks event!


She also shared the story of Toby the Bear, a gift from a military dad to his children before he died during active duty who got lost on a trip to Disney World.  Thanks to the Disney cast members, Toby was reunited with his family, and boy did he have stories to tell about his adventures when he got home.  You MUST read this story - but just fair warning, have some tissues handy!

Next up, Noah Lomax from Hewlett Packard shared with us all the new things HP is doing to make moms' lives easier, like Instant Ink, a subscription service for printer ink.  He also had a surprise just for me!

Prior to the conference we were asked to submit a photo of us showing our #DisneySide, and HP created a water bottle with mine to give to me as a gift!  So awesome!!!

We also heard from Victoria Lim, who shared with us about creating visual content.  Who knew you were supposed to hold your phone horizontally to take photos???  She also shared with us some of her favorite apps for photo and video - some great tips so I can start incorporating video into the blog!  

After a short break (which included another surprise gift as well as a sweet treat) it was time for Maria Bailey, CEO of BSM Media and MomTalkRadio host, to introduce our mompreneur panel!  Each year Huggies sponsors their Mom Inspired grant program, awarding $15K in grant money to parents to get their product ideas off the ground!

Lastly, we were treated to a talk from Debi Silber, The Mojo Coach, who reminded us that even as busy moms and workers we still owe it to ourselves to keep ourselves healthy.  


Before we knew it, the conference had ended and we were all saying our goodbyes!  I had SUCH a wonderful time and I hope I get the opportunity to experience another Disney Social Media Moms Celebration again in the future!

I Love You Just the Way You Are

It's taken me several tries to get this post down - partly because it's pretty deep and it's been awhile since I've shared such raw feelings on the blog.  And partly because it meant a lot to me to share this with you and I wanted it to be perfect.  Me?  A perfectionist??  I know you're shocked.

See, there's this problem I have.

I am slightly obsessed with my weight.

This probably isn't much of a surprise to most of you either, since I mention it on the blog pretty regularly.  Despite the running and regular workouts, I have been steadily gaining weight since January.


I realize that some of this weight gain is due to muscle - since muscle weighs more than fat.  But I weighed myself this weekend and found myself weighing almost 10lb more than I did when Mr. Smith Summary and I got married 10 years ago.

And I shared my thoughts on how upset that made me with Mr. Smith Summary and you know what he told me??

I love you just the way you are.

And it got me to thinking - why don't I love me just the way that I am??  Why is the number on the scale SO freakin' important to me??


I mean, I even joined my pal Patty's DietBet in hopes that the thought of losing $10 would make me not eat everything in sight.  So far though, I don't think it's working.  And yet despite hurting my hip over the weekend (whole other topic y'all, I'll fill you all in when I have more details) I got on my scale this morning in hopes that seeing the number there would persuade me to run anyways, even though I knew I shouldn't.

Yup, my obsession with "a number" is that bad.  It's pretty unhealthy actually.

And that's when it hit me - that number doesn't define my health.

I'd like to think that I'm in pretty good shape.  I ran 9 miles on Saturday and could have kept on going.  I can play outside with my kids and keep up with them.  I have had a physical and got a clean bill of health from my doctor.  Sure, the number on my scale is higher than I'd like it to be - but it doesn't mean I'm unhealthy.  I'm sure there are a LOT more people out there who would love to be in my shoes.  Sure, my abs aren't as flat as they used to be and I might have a harder time fitting into my capris than I did this time last year, but with a little hard work, they WILL fit again.  And it won't matter what the number on the scale says - because the devil is in the details - or rather, the blue jean capris that I'd like to wear without sporting a muffin top ;)


Does this mean I'm not going to ever get back on that scale?  No.  But does it mean I will take less stock in what the number says?  Yes.  After all, I don't want to lose my $10 ;)  And does this mean that I will stop looking at people thinner than myself and wishing I could be more like them?  Absolutely.  It's time to start loving myself the way that I am - and I'm going to take it one step at a time.

Healthy Iced Mocha

I tried a new, healthy recipe for an iced mocha over the weekend and it was SO yummy, I just knew I had to share it with you!!!


I got this recipe from my pal Jamie and then adapted it slightly because I do not have Stevia.  I took ran/walked a 5K with my friend Julie Saturday morning and then took a 1 hour spin class - I was pooped when we got done and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try out this recipe!

1 cup cold coffee

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 scoop chocolate-flavored protein powder

1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp agave

I mixed this in one of my blender bottles and then served over ice, but I'm sure it would be just as tasty (or even tastier) if you blended it with ice for a frappe of sorts.

It was refreshing and yummy, perfect for post-workout refueling!

My First Stitch Fix

I purchased my Stitch Fix with my own money and was not asked to provide this review.  The link below does contain my referral but I will not be otherwise compensated for this post.

I heard about Stitch Fix a few months ago through some friends that had tried it and really liked it.  I am not a big clothes shopper - I honestly cannot remember the last time I went clothes shopping for myself, except say for running attire.  I find this very funny because I used to LOVE to go shopping, but nevertheless, my wardrobe is in desperate need of some new pieces so I decided to give Stitch Fix a try to see how it went.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Stitch Fix, let me give you a brief overview.


When you first start with Stitch Fix you will create an online style profile, which includes your sizes and picking out what types of styles you like.  This will help the stylists pick what pieces to send you - if you have a Pinterest board with outfit ideas you can even include that to give them even more insight into what you like.  The stylists will hand-pick 5 items they think you will like and send them to you - you keep and pay for what you like and return the rest in a prepaid envelope.  Creating your profile will cost you $20 but that amount is credited towards your purchase.  Each item comes with styling tips, so those of us that are, ahem, fashion impaired will know how to dress each item up or down to suit any occassion.


Due to the popular demand of Stitch Fix these days it took over a month to get my first fix, but I will get them monthly from now on.  I can now provide feedback to my stylist so they can better select items I will love!  Here's a peak at what was in my first Stitch Fix:


Esten Button Up Sleeveless Blouse, paired with a Crosby Striped Maxi Skirt

I honestly love the skirt - the top is ok (I'm not a big fan of showing my arms).  I paired them together because the style card said they would look well but overall I liked the skirt paired better with a black top I already had in my closet.  I'm 99% sure I will be keeping the skirt but the jury is still out on the top.


Wrenn V-Neck Jersey Top

I like this top, and it's very soft (I just threw on a pair of shorts that I already had), but it does cling a little in places I don't want to accentuate.  Jury is still out on this one as well.


Maddison Geo Print Belted Shirt Dress

I really love the pattern, but...I dunno.  It just doesn't look quite right on me for some reason.  This one is going back.


Juno Small Folded Clutch

I don't really go out often enough to justify a purse, plus I hate having to hold stuff, so this is also going back.

Maybe

Maybe not taking a vacation this summer was a bad idea.  Since we are taking our big Disney vacation in October we decided not to do anything this summer.  And I've got cabin fever like a crazy lady, especially after seeing pics from all my DisBroad friends and their vacations.  Mr. Smith Summary and I are discussing a short trip over July 4th weekend to give us (and the girls) a little break.


Maybe I drink too much caffeine and it has stopped working as well on me.  It's no big secret that I am a coffee-holic (uhm, hello, Starbucks Gold member right here).  But I remember a time when one cup of coffee would get me up and running like no one's business and now it takes two or three.


Or

Maybe I just don't get enough sleep at night.  I've been getting up early to do my exercise before work but I really haven't been going to bed earlier at night; I think right now I'm averaging about 5 hours of sleep each night.  Now I KNOW that's not good and yet I do nothing about it.


And

Maybe not getting enough sleep is why I can't seem to get the number on the scale to budge.  I was starting to think my body was just happy at this weight - and maybe it is.  Or maybe it's the copious amounts of coffee (as previously mentioned) and the lack of sleep.  Hmmm...


Maybe I should start looking for something to wear to Disney Social Media Moms On the Road in Philly!  I will be flat honest - I have not been (regular) clothes shopping for myself in quite some time.  I tried on some dresses from my friend Kate but sadly they don't fit quite right (see weight loss issue above).  I am holding out hope that Stitch Fix has something for me - I am getting my first one on Wednesday and I can't wait to fill you in!

Maybe I will need to look into getting some padded shorts for spin class now that the LiveFit Studio is open and they are offering more workout classes!  I have been going to bootcamp classes twice a week now for over a month and I LOVE it.  I am trying my first spin/TRX combo class tomorrow morning - I hope I live to tell you all about it afterwards!



Maybe I will do another giveaway to raise money for St. Jude.  In case I haven't mentioned it, I have signed up once again to be a St. Jude Hero for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend half marathon in December.  My goal this time is at least $500 and I KNOW this is very doable and I KNOW you're gonna help me get there, right??  What do you guys think, another Sparkle Skirts giveaway?  Or maybe this time I'll go with Sparkle Athletic???  Decisions, decisions...  In the meantime, feel free to donate here ;)
