Island Boost Review

I received samples of Island Boost to try through a blog giveaway; I have not otherwise been compensated for this review and all opinions, as always, are 100% my own.

I recently got to try Island Boost thanks to my friend Beth!!

I was a bit of a skeptic when I first heard about Island Boost.  I tried traditional gels - my tummy didn't like them all that much.  And I assumed that Island Boost was like those gels when in fact, it couldn't be more different!

Island Boost is made with coconut water and all natural, premium ingredients.  If you know me, you know I've been making a concerted effort to put more "natural" things in my body so this fit the bill.  It is also gluten-free, vegan, and caffeine-free (which I like because I drink so much coffee, I don't need any extra sources of caffeine!).  Island Boost contains no artificial sweeteners or flavors and is shelf stable for a whole year!  They also recommend sticking it in the freezer to use for hot days - I'll have to save a pack to try that when it gets hot out again!

I got to try the Passion Fruit flavor:

I tried Island Boost for the first time on my last 8 mile run.  Again, I was anticipating more of a gel-like consistency but because it is made with coconut water is is very liquid-y and went down very quickly.  It was sweet but not to a fault - I had my water with me but didn't feel like I need any to "choke" it down like with traditional gels.  And when I say it went down very quickly I'm not kidding - I can NEVER fuel in under a minute and I did with Island Boost.  On my longer runs I try to keep a 3:1 run:walk ratio so this worked great so I could get back to my running on time!

How did I feel after using it?  About the same as with my usual fuels.  I didn't feel jittery or hyped up but I could tell it had given me the energy to keep going.  When I ran my fastest 10K ever this past weekend I fueled with more Island Boost at mile 4 - so I definitely think it does it's job :)

So my overall opinion - I really like this stuff.  I would really like to try more flavors (in addition to Passion Fruit, they also have Strawberry-Orange and Blueberry-Pomegranate) - the price is $10 for a 3 pack so a little on the high side but definitely something I would splurge on from time to time.

Something else I found very exciting is that they have formulated a chocolate flavor Island Boost and need our help bringing it to market!  Island Boost is still a small company and if there's one thing I've learned being in the healthcare industry it's that testing a new product and bringing it to market is EXPENSIVE!  This chocolate flavor sounds absolutely delish but they can't get it on the shelves without our help - click here if you're interested in helping them out!  And they'll even give you a token of appreciation for your donation :)

QOTD:  Have you ever tried Island Boost?  What did you think??
