Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Recap - Part 2

Let's see now, where were we?

Oh yeah - it's EXPO time!

Good morning California Adventure!

I set my alarm for 6am Friday morning but found myself wide awake at 4:45am (thanks time change!).  Finally pulled myself out of bed when the alarm went off and got myself all ready to head over to the Disneyland Hotel for the race expo.  First, we had to pit stop downstairs for our continental breakfast.  How is this for a free breakfast??

Not bad, eh?

My sister and BIL headed over to the parks while my wonderful hubby joined me on the the trek to the expo.  First, I had to stop at La Brea Bakery for a delicious iced coffee (yes, I know I have a coffee problem and I'm ok with that!).  I was afraid I wouldn't know where to go for the expo but as I was walking out of the bakery I spotted two runDisney employees heading towards the hotel so I figured I'd just follow them!
Follow that runDisney bag!!!

We got in the line for the merchandise area of the expo a little before 9am - the expo didn't open until 10am but I didn't mind waiting because I had my sights set on a few items that I knew would probably go fast.  I apparently had the same idea as several others because while we weren't THAT far from the front of the line, we weren't THAT close either :)  But we were in the shade and we had plenty of nice folks to talk to while we waited!

Run Kat, fresh from the runDisney meet-up that morning!

Peggy Sue and her daughter Jane (who blogs over at Fit Plus Fearless) - some of my PbRC friends!  You'll see more of Peggy Sue...

A few minutes before 10am the line began to move and we were ushered into the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center for the expo!  Everyone, of course, made a beeline for the runDisney merchandise.  I had a list with me of things I had wanted and with Owen's help, I found each one (plus a few extras...) and got in line before it got too crazy (from what I've heard from others, it got VEEEERRRRRYYYYY crazy not long after that so I am one lucky duck!).  Our wait to check out wasn't very long but look who I ran into in line??!!!

Ashley from The Pavement Princess!!!  Love ya Ashley!

Chatting with Ashley and her husband Joe really made the time fly by and the next thing I knew I was carrying my purchases over to the next "must hit" booth - the folks from New Balance!

Now don't get me wrong - I wanted my "I Did It!" Dumbo shirt like the rest of them but what I got in line before 9am for was these shoes:

And I got em!!!!  Aren't they purty???!!!

I took this one from the New Balance line, next to the stage - THAT is the runDisney merchandise area - told ya it got CRAY

The rest of the expo!!!

With my runDisney items and New Balance shoes in hand I was a happy girl but Owen and I walked around the rest of the expo just to see if anything else sparked my interest.  Of course, I could've spent a whole paycheck at the Sparkle Athletic booth!  I even got to meet Kelly in person - such a sweetie!!!

Then I spotted the Women's Running Series booth and HAD to get a peek at the medal I will be earning later on this month!!!  Check out THIS bling:

Boots!!!  They aren't just made for walking anymore ;)

I also stopped by the wonderful Sparkle Skirts booth and made a purchase there as well!  They were super friendly and even let me try the skirt on to make sure I liked it and it fit well before I paid!  I didn't get a picture of it but trust me - it's awesome :)

We had lunch reservations at Blue Bayou in Disneyland at 12:30 so Owen and I decided we'd had enough shopping and headed back to the hotel - and I caught a glimpse of this awesomeness on the way out!

The line was too long to get my picture made with it but I still thought it was pic worthy :)

And I know what you're thinking - Kristen, don't forget about your bib!!!!  Don't worry folks, I was going to go get it but the line was about an hour long so I decided to wait and go AFTER lunch when the line had died down and (SPOILER ALERT) when we got back and walked right in, I knew I'd made the right choice!

Random, yes I know but it's the wallpaper in the bathroom at the Disneyland Hotel.  SO cool.

After dropping off our expo purchases (did I mention that Owen bought some shoes at the New Balance booth?  Not runDisney, of course, but regular shoes that are neon colored and glow in the dark.  Yes, I'm awesome like that) we headed over to Disneyland to meet my sis and BIL for our lunch reservation.

Hello Disneyland!

The castle

HAVE to tell you what Owen said when we saw Sleeping Beauty's castle for the first time:  "Did someone take Cinderella's castle and step on it?"  True story.

In reading up on things to do at Disneyland I read over and over about how you HAD to eat at Blue Bayou.  This restaurant is located INSIDE the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.  YES, I said INSIDE the ride.  The only thing I wish I had read before we ate there was how there was SO much food that you could share with someone.  I stuffed my face with the Monte Cristo sandwich - it was delish!

Blue Bayou

My sister and I were attending Krissy and Morgan's Cupcake Meet-up to benefit St. Jude so we had to hurry over there after lunch but we still managed to sneak in a ride before we left the park...

"There it is - the back side of water!!"  That ride NEVER gets old.  My sis and BIL loved it, as you can see

After the cupcake meet-up, we headed back over to the Disneyland Hotel for bib pick-up.  See, we walked right in, just like I told ya.

The carpet leading into the packet pick-up area

My bib!!!!!

The ever-important Coast to Coast wristband.  I had to wear this thing until Sunday after the half in order to get my Coast to Coast medal!

The race shirts - ALL THREE of them!!

We made another stop at the hotel to drop off these goodies before we headed back into Downtown Disney for dinner at Earl of Sandwich.  They had sent me a gift certificate for a free birthday sandwich and I was happy to cash it in!!  After dinner, we headed back into Disneyland for some more fun before calling it a night.  One neat thing I liked about Disneyland is that the monorail is more like a ride - we got on at the Downtown Disney stop and rode it into the park.

We got off the monorail and found ourselves at the Finding Nemo Underwater Submarine ride.  They do not have this ride at the World and the line was about 5 minutes long so we hopped in!

SO cool

And finally, one of the last things I wanted to do before turning in (I had a big day the next day!) was see Disneyland's version of Fantasmic.  When we were on vacation in the world last year we caught most of the show at Hollywood Studios before it began to rain, and I had been told that the land's version was much better.  And I have to say that I agree!

Nighttime fun at Disneyland!  The castle lit up and pics from Fantasmic!

We ended up staying out later than I had planned and walking a LOT more than I had planned so after the show we went back to the hotel so I could hit the hay.  But first, I had to lay out Flat Kristen for Saturday's 10K!

Can you guess my costume???

Are you completely picture overloaded yet???  Check back as I continue my recap, including both races and the after celebrations!!!

QOTD:  What is your favorite ride in Disneyland??

  1. I love your costume! that tank is on my list of things to buy. And I kinda hate you- I want the shoes! but wasnt waiting in line for them. lol You earned them!

    1. LOL - I would have snagged you a pair Patty!!!!

  2. Yay! The shoes! I love mine! I need that tank of yours, too. I can't wait until Tink so I can see Disneyland!

    1. Asics girl, get you one! I got it on sale from Lady Footlocker! Super comfy :)

  3. Great pictures! I love your outfit!

  4. I haven't been to Disneyland since I was a junior in high school. Yep, it's been a couple of years. The only ride that has really stayed with me was the Matterhorn.

Love the pictures and the costume (and the tank) so cute!

    1. You know the Matterhorn was closed when we got there?? By the time it reopened the lines were so long I didn't get to ride it; I really wanted to ride that one too :( My sister got to though!

  5. So glad to hear you didn't have to go through the craziness that was the race merchandise line. Loving your pics and your recap. Can't wait to hear more!

  6. LOVE your costume!

I have never been to Disneyland, but that has to change.

And OMG - it DOES look like someone squashed Cinderella's castle! But it's still an awesome castle!

    1. Thanks Jenn!! Yes, I have to agree with Owen, it was a little underwhelming compared to Cinderella's but you get to go inside this one and they tell the story of Sleeping Beauty - that was awesome :)
