Powered By Bits

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I had to work (bleck) but I couldn't let work get in the way of my Dumbo training because, in case you've forgotten, I only have 52 days until go time!!!!!!  Shame on me for not giving you a countdown on Friday so I had to make sure I threw one in there today :)

So on tap this weekend was my 2 mile walk on Saturday, which I successfully completed early that morning before work.  Yesterday was my much longer 9.5 mile run and I'll be honest, I was a bit nervous about it because it had been so long since I had put in that many miles at one time.  I haven't run a distance where I'd need to fuel more than once and I was trying to decide how much fuel to take with me and pick my route so I could loop back by my house for a water refill.  Yesterday was also the day I had decided to put my Energybits sample to the test and I'm here today to tell you all about how that went!

According to their website, Energybits are best used for:

  • Increasing energy
  • Increasing endurance
  • Increasing mental vitality
  • High protein snack
  • Curbing hunger
  • Meal Replacement
  • Balancing blood sugar
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Reducing fatigue
Who doesn't need all of these things??  I was especially excited about the lowering blood pressure perk since I mentioned the other day that I was recently diagnosed with hypertension.  For best results they recommend taking at least 30 Energybits before any physical activity.

I will admit - the idea of swallowing 30 tablets was a little overwhelming.  I decided to do 5 at a time and washed them down with some fruit punch flavored Nuun.

Swallowing 5 at a time was surprisingly easy.  I was a little worried that I would taste them - especially since I could smell them as soon as I opened the tin, and you know that smell can affect taste.  But honestly once I put them in my mouth and took a drink I didn't taste them at all.  I think I could probably try 6 at a time next time, they are really small.

Once I got them all in I went about getting ready for my run and then headed out, approximately 30 minutes later.  I brought enough for two fuels while I was gone and was anxious to see how soon I'd need one.  The skies were overcast when I got started and I felt really good heading into the first 3 miles.  Next thing I knew, I'd hit 4 miles and I still wasn't feeling the "need" to fuel - but decided to go ahead and do it anyway.  I usually fuel every 3 miles if that gives you an indication of how much longer I made it.  I'm all about fueling less because that's less I have to carry with me.  Score!

I fueled again around the 8 mile mark and finished my 9.5 miles in 1:48:57.  The sun had peaked out during the last half so while I was hot, I didn't feel near as tired as I usually do.  I headed home and had my post-run chocolate milk then ate lunch with the family before taking a shower.  I figured that I would probably need a nap like I usually do after a long run like that but Morgan had other plans and you know what?  I honestly didn't miss it.  Other than my morning coffee I did not have any other caffeine yesterday either.  As a busy, working mom I really liked the sustained energy that I got from my morning bits.

After some fun times at my mom's pool, dinner, and a great Twitter chat with my #runDisney pals last night it was time for everyone to turn in for the night and I usually have NO trouble going to sleep so I was concerned that all this extra energy I had might turn into a restless night of sleep for me but NO way Jose - I was out like a light, even a little earlier than my usual bedtime.  I got a good night's rest which I know my body really needed.

Overall first impression - these things are GREAT!  I am so very excited that my cute little tin has enough in there to try them again but I think I will probably splurge and buy a bag.  At first glance on the website it seems like they are a little pricey but the bag has 1000 bits in it so it should last you awhile.  I think the benefits are worth the price.

So now onto the fun part:  because I liked Energybits so much I'd like to share them with you!

Thanks to the nice folks at Energybits one of my readers will receive their own sample to try!  They are also giving a 10% discount to my readers - just enter the code BLOG in the coupon box at checkout and the discount is instantly applied.  Maybe I will get up the courage to apply to be an Ambassador...more on that for another time I guess.

  1. I use caffeine and energy gels to fuel for my workouts! I'd love to give the Energybits a try, though. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

    1. Couldn't hurt! They are all natural so they can't hurt her. You have to swallow them though, so as long as she can swallow a few at a time she might like them!

    1. Maybe Energybits will work?? :) Hopefully you'll get to try them!! I didn't use them during my run because I didn't know how it would work trying to swallow tablets while I was out - I stuck with my Honey Stinger chews for during my run.

  10. Right now I generally use gels (Honey Stinger are my favorite) or breakfast such as greek yogurt with fresh fruit mixed in to fuel for a workout. But I've been hearing a lot of great things about Energybits and really want to try them.
