Vacation Recap: Part I

We had an awesome time at Lake Hamilton last week - did you guys miss me??  LOL.  I have a lot of great things to share so I will split this up into multiple posts so I don't bombard you with a bunch of cuteness in one post.

We left Sunday morning shortly before lunch to make the 3 hour drive to Lake Hamilton.  I am VERY pleased to report that Morgan did wonderfully on the drive.  Now, she did sleep for the 1+ hour after we stopped for lunch but that's neither here nor there....she did seem to enjoy watching a movie on the portable DVD player.  Score!

We stayed with our friends Andi and Abby at the South Shore Lake Resort; here's a view of the lake from our kitchen:

Gorgeous!

After a day of traveling and grocery shopping these moms didn't want to cook so we headed to one of our favorite Lake Hamilton spots for dinner - Fisherman's Wharf.  Every time we come here we request to sit outside because it is right on the lake.  Samantha has always loved to feed the fish, ducks, and turtles that swim up and this year was especially fun because Morgan got a big kick out of watching them.

She looks less than impressed here but I think she was just hungry :)

Samantha, on the other hand, was having a great time.  She always does this hand pose thing these days...

I had my usual, bacon-wrapped, crab-stuffed shrimp.  In an attempt to be halfway healthy, I had steamed new potatoes and vegetables instead of my usual french fries.  I think that was only because I KNEW I was not leaving there without a piece of their delicious carrot cake.  And yes, I ate the whole thing.  And no, I forgot to take a picture until it was all gone.  Just trust me - it was awesome.

Monday we were planning to spend a leisurely morning at the condo pool so I threw on my exercise clothes and got a walk in.  I may not have mentioned it but the condo complex was entirely TOO hilly for this runner girl, but I knew I needed to keep up my exercising as much as possible so I went for a 30 minute walk on Monday and explored around the complex.  After a quick change we went to the pool for a few hours and I proceeded to get sunburn part 1 (why do I always miss parts of my back with my sunscreen??).  Quick lunch and a shower and we were off to Bathhouse Row to do some shopping.

I made sure to stop at some of my usual favorites:  The Savory Pantry and The Fudge Factory.  This year I got the German Chocolate Fudge and the Mint Chocolate.  The German Chocolate was good but the Mint Chocolate was OMG good.  Folks, really - it was THAT good.  With the kids we usually try to stop at the Toy Chest; this year we decided to let them pick out one toy each.  Samantha quickly picked out a set of Calico Critters; Morgan was a harder sell but finally decided on this cutie:

I know it's hard to see but she's a pink dragon wearing a tutu - hence the name, TuTu

This year though I found two new favorites on Bathhouse Row - the Bathhouse Soapery and Fat Bottomed Girls' Cupcake Shop. Both places happen to have the same owner and I loved them both.   If you know me, the cupcake shop stop should not be a surprise to you.  They had THE BEST cupcakes and the nicest staff!

A pink box full of yummy goodness

I tried their carrot cake because come to find they don't put nuts in theirs and I'm honestly not a nut fan and it was delish!  I also ended up eating the vanilla on vanilla cupcake that I originally bought for Morgan and it was also really good, even a few days later!  My one regret was not making a second trip back; they were that yummy.  I wish they would ship...

Speaking of ship though, the Bathhouse Soapery does!  Which is good because I fell in LOVE with their handmade soaps and scrubs.  Everything in their shop is homemade and smelled wonderful!  I left with 3 different bar soaps and a container of Cupcake foaming body scrub (I know, shocker).  I used it the next day on my feet and they felt SO soft and smooth afterwards!  They were very reasonably priced too; I am looking forward to trying more of their items!

After a full day of swimming and shopping we were beat and the next day we had planned to spend the morning on the boat; stayed tuned for more of my recap!
