South Carolina Trip

Wow...what a week!!!

We started our trip at 5:30am on Saturday  morning.  The girls traveled remarkably well; I was so proud of them!  Here is Samantha once we got to Grandma's house:

Sunday I attempted my 6 mile training run.  Notice that I put attempted, because sadly I did not complete all 6 miles.  Owen wasn't kidding when he said Grandma's neighborhood was hilly - OMG.  I made it 4 miles and had to stop - I started to feel a pain in the arch on my right foot and I didn't want to risk it.  I'm not sure if it was the terrain or what but it hasn't hurt since so I'm chalking it up to the hills.  I just wasn't prepared for them to be THAT bad!  After a shower we headed out to do some sightseeing and stopped for lunch at Hardee's.

I haven't eaten at a Hardee's in years!!!  We used to have one close to my house when I was growing up but it closed a LONG time ago.  The neatest thing about this Hardee's is that they clean their highchairs and then shrink wrap the trays to keep them clean, AND put a disposable bib in it!

How cool is that?  I just had to take a picture.

After lunch  my father-in-law took us to Dorman High School.  When he was a student there the school was in a different location; they have since moved to a MUCH larger location and built new facilities.  This place seriously looks like a college campus, not a high school:

Football Stadium

9th grade campus - yes, they separate the freshmen
Is that not crazy huge???!!!

We also went by and saw the BMW manufacturing facility in Greer, which is right next to Spartanburg.  They have a test track where they test the cars; Owen's dream job!

He and Samantha even went to pick me out a car :)

Monday we traveled to Landrum to visit my mother-in-law's father.  Landrum is a small town right on the NC/SC border.  They used to only have one red light but they have graduated to three now - woohoo!  Their claim to fame is that they also now have a Bi Lo, which grandpa talks about like it's THE happening place in town.  Here is the infamous Bi Lo:

He has a farm so Samantha got a big kick out of picking peaches, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, and potatoes.  HOWEVER, the farm didn't like her so well - in the wee hours of Tuesday morning Samantha came into our bedroom unable to breathe so we rushed her over to the emergency room at Spartanburg Regional.  Poor thing had an allergic reaction to something and had the croup - we were there almost 4 hours and she got a steroid and a breathing treatment.  Needless to say she was feeling better by the time we got back to grandma's but we were all exhausted.  We did however stop at Krispy Kreme on the way home to enjoy some hot donuts (sorry, no pics there, I was too tired!!)

Tuesday we had the family reunion luncheon (the purpose behind the whole trip) and thankfully, I was able to get a nap in that afternoon.  Tuesday was also mine and Owen's 8 year anniversary so his parents watched the girls and we went out for dessert, just the two of us :)

We had another rough night Tuesday night - Morgan just didn't sleep good period the whole time we were gone, AND she cut two top teeth while we were away also.  So Wednesday we took it easy and decided to grill some steaks at the house.  On our way to the grocery store a torrential downpour began and it got kinda cool so I decided to stop at the coffee shop for a treat:

My Mocha Bianca - aka, White Chocolate Mocha - YUM
Thursday we were up and on our way to Pigeon Forge.  We rolled into town a little later than we had originally intended but we still got some shopping in at the outlet mall before we headed to Gatlinburg for dinner.  Owen and I took our honeymoon in Gatlinburg so being back there exactly 8 years later was very nostalgic :)  We even ate dinner at a place we ate at on our honeymoon!

Samantha at No Way Jose's Cantina
My margarita - MUCH deserved!
After dinner we went across the street to the Ripley's Aquarium.  Samantha REALLY loved that!

Petting the crabs!
And to add to the nostalgia - I couldn't resist taking a picture of the hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon:

I know it's hard to see but it's there!
We got home Friday and were able to spend the weekend getting back to our "normal", which is really anything but :)

Did you guys miss me???!!!
