The Beacon

As I mentioned the other day, we are headed out this weekend to spend a week in South Carolina visiting Owen's family.  Owen's grandmother lives in Spartanburg, SC - right on the other side of the Smoky Mountains.  I have been there once, almost 9 years ago, for his family reunion before we even got married.  I barely remember anything about it except this restaurant called The Beacon.

The Beacon Drive-In has been open since 1946.  I have seen it featured on several different shows on the Travel Channel and Food Network.  It's famous for it's chili cheese-a-plenty - a chili cheeseburger on a plate completely covered with french fries and onion rings.  Now, I won't be partaking in one of these but I am looking forward to a delicious hamburger and their banana split!

Did I mention I will be running on this trip???

Speaking of my last trip to Spartanburg being 9 years ago - while we are in South Carolina next week, Owen and I will be celebrating our 8 year anniversary.  Can you believe it was 8 years ago that we got married, on that hot summer day and the power went out at our reception???!!!  We spent our honeymoon in Gatlinburg and on our way home from South Carolina next week we are going to stop and spend the night there - how nostalgic :)

Owen's grandmother does not have internet so I am not sure that I will be able to post any next week - so, if not, I hope you all have a great week and I will be sure to post pics when we get back!!
